Op de valreep II: At the last moment 14-12-2020 Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Op de valreep II/ At the last moment

EN After visiting the Surinamese School exhibition, see the previous post, I continued, on December 14, 2020 to some other exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Firstly: Proposals for the museum collection under the title In the presence of absence. For this exhibition, artists have responded to a call to respond critically to what is not seen or should be shared more often. A selection has been made from the submissions. In this selection for me a lot of very familiar works and some surprises.

Just like with the Surinamese School, again only an online publication. http://www.stedelijk.nl/nl/en/absentpublication

For a museum that wants to be ‘inclusive’, they always have remarkably few options to sit. I pay attention to this on behalf of my 84-year-old mother who would like to sit in every room for a while, to watch longer and better or to rest. People with disabilities (or pains) probably have the same need.

Tot zover / So far this exhibition.

Next:

Impressie/Impression to get an idea for those who haven’t seen it yet

Exhibition From Thonet to Dutch Design / Van Thonet tot Dutch Design.

So much for an impression of my visit to the SMA on December 14, 2020. Probably most of it, and more, can still be seen when the Museum is allowed to reopen after January 19 2021.

Gary Schwartz made his research for The Image of the Black in Western Art available to me.
